Six years ago, The Hubs parents sold their house and moved
into a motorhome full time. My MIL teaches Nursing and my FIL retired from his
full time job to teach tax classes and prepare taxes during tax season. This
has allowed them to travel when school is out. At first we thought, we could
never do that! We just had Sweetie Girl and Mini Pooch at the time and we
couldn’t see getting rid of enough stuff to fit in a RV.
Fast forward to a year or so ago. We’ve now added Little Man,
Baby Boy and Gigantor Dog. We start thinking maybe this is something we could
do! Now you should know we’ve never really been the type of people to go with
the flow. We have a dream of owning a homestead and becoming self sufficient.
The RV lifestyle is our bridge to getting there. So, at this point, it’s a
temporary means to an end, but that may change. The more research I’ve done,
the more excited I’m getting to actually do some traveling.
So, over the past year or so, we’ve been going back and
forth on whether or not, making the move to full time RVing is a step we want
to take. At the beginning of March 2016, we decided we were ready to jump in
with both feet! We listed our house, and after 10 days and almost 50 showings
we received an offer! We just closed on our house yesterday.
In March, we purchased a 2008 Keystone Cougar 310 SRX Toy
Hauler. It has 5 built in bunks in the garage which is perfect for our needs!
It will saved us time because we had planned on building beds for the kids, now
it’s already done for us! We traded in our van (that we hated) for a 2007 Ford
F-250 Crew Cab to pull the 5th wheel and sold Eric’s older truck.
Originally we had planned to take a week vacation to TX to
visit family and then spend at least the remainder of the summer here in CO. This
planned didn’t work out the way we had planned, so now we will be heading to TX
for a month. That’s as far as our plans have gone at the moment. We do plan to
go visit family in MI this summer and are thinking that we’d like to try to
stay for about a month. With all of the craziness of downsizing and moving into
the RV, we haven’t had a chance to set the rest of our summer plans in stone.
We’ll be posting pictures of what the RV looks like when we
move in as well as any changes we decide to make. We’ll also be sharing our
adventures in living in this tiny space with 2 adults, 3 kiddos and 2 pooches!
